Long Beach Symphony's 'Iconic Voices of Change' Electrifies Audience

A Night of Legendary Hits and Unforgettable Performances

The Long Beach Symphony's POPS Series recently showcased 'Iconic Voices of Change,' a concert that paid homage to music legends who have left an indelible mark on the industry.

Held at the Long Beach Arena, the event featured conductor Lucas Waldin leading the orchestra, with powerhouse vocalists Capathia Jenkins and Ryan Shaw delivering stirring renditions of classic hits.

The evening commenced with the orchestra's dynamic 'Icon Overture,' seamlessly blending snippets of iconic songs that set the tone for the night.

Jenkins captivated the audience with a soulful performance of Whitney Houston's 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody,' prompting many to take to the dance floors flanking the stage.

Shaw's rendition of Billy Joel's 'Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)' resonated deeply, highlighting themes of ambition and the pursuit of the American Dream.

The duo's duet of Sonny & Cher's 'I Got You Babe' evoked nostalgia, while the orchestra's instrumental of The Beatles' 'Hey Jude' encouraged a heartfelt sing-along.

Other standout moments included Shaw's emotive take on Elton John's 'Your Song' and Jenkins' electrifying performance of Patti LaBelle's 'Lady Marmalade.'

The concert concluded on a high note with a powerful ensemble performance of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough,' leaving the audience energized and inspired.

The Long Beach Symphony's POPS Series continues with upcoming concerts, including 'Endless Love: A Valentine’s Concert' on February 14, 2026, and 'Sounds of Laurel Canyon: 60s & 70s Rock Legends' on March 21, 2026.
